Our Menlo Park Work

Three Menlo Park homes, each one a neighbor's referral.

Nuvision has three Menlo Park projects on record, remodels and an addition, and each came the way most of our work does: someone watched a job go in down the street and asked for a card. Menlo Park is the north end of the territory we cover from Mountain View, and we are on the road there the way we are in Palo Alto and Los Altos.

Each finished home is a red house on our map of where we have worked, drawn near rather than on the property. We also build in neighboring Atherton, Woodside and Portola Valley.

What We Build Here

Menlo Park is several towns in one

The Willows and Suburban Park are 1940s and 50s cottages and ranches on compact lots, many already rebuilt as two-story homes. Allied Arts and Felton Gables carry prewar bungalows and Tudors under big oaks. West of Alameda de las Pulgas, Sharon Heights and Stanford Hills are mid-century homes on larger, sloping lots. Toward the Bayfront, Belle Haven is seeing new construction and ADUs on streets that went untouched for decades. Owners across these neighborhoods ask us for a few things in particular.

Kitchens, baths and whole-house remodels

Taking a 1950s Willows ranch or a Sharon Heights mid-century down to the studs and bringing it back as one open plan, with new kitchens and baths and the mechanical and electrical brought up to today's code.

Additions and second stories

On small Willows and Allied Arts lots the way to grow is up or back. Second-story additions and rear family rooms, drawn to the city's floor-area and daylight-plane rules and built so the house still reads as one.

ADUs and custom homes

Detached ADUs and garage conversions where the lot allows, and teardown-rebuilds or ground-up custom homes from your architect's plans, on the flats or on a Sharon Heights slope.

Building in Menlo Park

What the City of Menlo Park asks of a project

  • Menlo Park Community Development — building permits and plan check run through the Building Division at the Civic Center on Laurel Street, with planning review on new two-story homes and larger additions. We submit with your architect and set inspections around the crew.
  • Reach code and Title 24 — Menlo Park adopted all-electric and EV-ready amendments ahead of most of the county. Heat-pump water heating and electric-ready kitchens are priced into our proposals from the first draft.
  • Heritage trees — the city protects large oaks and other heritage trees on private lots, which affects foundations, trenching and where a crew can stage. We plan around them before the drawings are final.
  • Living in the house while we work — containment, daily cleanup and a schedule you can see week by week.
  • One quote that holds — detailed, line-item proposals before demolition, and changes priced in writing before they happen.
